Additional Türkiye and Syria relief actions raise company contribution to EUR 1 million

Earlier this week, the company’s initial response to the catastrophic earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria consisted of a first, immediate contribution of EUR 250,000 to the International Red Cross who is operating rescue and relief efforts in both Türkiye and Syria, a donation of 100 kits of medicine for patients in need, and the coordination and provision of safe, temporary shelter for displaced colleagues and their families.

Today, the company announced further actions to provide immediate relief and assistance. These include the deployment of a fully staffed 20-bed Boehringer Ingelheim Field Hospital with a mobile surgery unit and laboratory; EUR 100,000 of emergency supplies to be distributed to public hospital emergency rooms in the impacted region; and a EUR 140,000 financial contribution to the United Nations’ Syria Humanitarian Fund to support aid operations in Syria. These measures raise the total contribution to relief efforts to EUR 1 million.

“Our thoughts are with our many colleagues and their families, as well as those with loved ones across the impacted regions who are just starting a long journey to recovery.” says Hubertus von Baumbach, Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors. “Therefore, we are also extending supplemental benefits – including financial, psychological, and relocation support services - to our colleagues living and working in the region. And we will continue to do everything we can to help our impacted colleagues, their families, and communities.”

Support for those impacted by Türkiye & Syria earthquakes

The powerful earthquakes that struck Türkiye & Syria earlier this week have caused catastrophic damage and casualties. As the magnitude of this natural disaster comes into focus, it is clear that the unfolding humanitarian crisis will continue to intensify over the coming days and weeks.

"Our thoughts are with our many colleagues and their families as well as those with loved ones across the impacted regions," says Hubertus von Baumbach, Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors. "We are grateful that our colleagues living and working in the impacted areas are safe and accounted for, however, the road to recovery has only just begun."

In an effort to support the professional aid and relief organizations on the ground in the impacted areas, we are contributing EUR 250,000 to the International Red Cross who is operating rescue and relief efforts in both Türkiye and Syria.

In addition to this financial contribution, the company has donated medicines to patients in need and is providing impacted employees and their families with safe, temporary shelter and accommodations to offset concerns about structural safety and extreme weather conditions.

"We would like to thank all who have worked tirelessly during the past days to provide help wherever help can be provided." Hubertus von Baumbach promises: "We will do everything to help our impacted colleagues, their families and communities."

As the situation continues to evolve in the region, Boehringer Ingelheim is preparing additional ways to provide support.
