Living with Schizophrenia: Beyond the Stigma

What do you think of when you hear the word “schizophrenia”?

Whether it’s misconceptions around the symptoms or sensationalized representations in media and movies, the condition has become highly stigmatized and misunderstood, resulting in an added burden for people living with the condition.

Listen as Carlos, who in his early twenties was diagnosed with adult-onset schizophrenia, and his mother Ana share their story in their own words. From the onset of symptoms, including the fear and confusion of not understanding what was happening, to successfully managing the condition and becoming mental health advocates.

Through sharing their experiences, Carlos and Ana have been able to connect with others and help individuals know they are not alone. By pushing beyond the stigma associated with schizophrenia, they aim to bring hope and inspire others to not let the label of schizophrenia hold anyone back.
