Our Health and Safety Initiative – BE SAFE

Health and safety are of great importance to Boehringer Ingelheim. With our initiative BE SAFE - which is part of our Sustainable Development – For Generations framework - we take the responsibility for ensuring safe workplaces for our employees, partners and visitors. Therefore, our distinctive safety culture is constantly being reviewed and optimized. We strive to keep our employees in good health, supporting their well-being across all working environments.

Importantly, our commitment to employees’ health, safety, and well-being is grounded in our Leitbild and in our company values. Taking care of the physical and health and wellbeing of our employees contributes to our sustainable ambition. Therefore, with these commitments, we proactively reduce the potential of occupational injuries and illnesses by encouraging our “Inclusive” and “Speak-Up” culture, whilst also implementing activity-based risk assessments. As a result, we continue to build an environment that enhances safety awareness and fosters safe attitudes and behaviors through the training of our employees.

To permanently reduce the number of accidents, all employees are guided and trained in safety-conscious behavior. In addition, line managers are responsible for ensuring that employees within their organizational unit are correctly trained in occupational safety and accident prevention measures.

Ultimately, whether from senior management, through to our on-site staff, to our field force and external service providers: we promote awareness through hands-on employee engagement and effective communication, thereby encouraging health and safety promotion at the workplace.

All incidents and accidents are recorded, investigated, and documented using local and global accident reporting systems. Accidents resulting in lost working days are consolidated monthly. Near-misses are investigated in order to prevent accidents by eliminating any circumstances which could lead to injuries to our employees.
